The importance of G.K. for Kids

1990s - Good old school time and good old report cards... After 5-6 major subjects in our report card, there were some minor subjects like- Art, Music, Moral Science and G.K. I still remember revising some current affairs, just before the G.K. exam. And if any question came from the 'studied' current affair, it felt so good.  Come today 2022- Art and Music have grown by leaps and bounds. These are taught in schools plus the kids learn them through extra classes too. But Moral Science and G.K. are lost as a subject. They are no more independent or mandatory subjects, though the moral concepts and general knowledge is still provided in different forms or as different activities.  Talking to various kids from few years made me feel that though today's kids are way sharper, but they are low on current affairs and general awareness. General Knowledge is built over years. It can't be gained overnight by reading one or two G.K. books. Middle years children (5-10 years) and pre...

Yoga Yoga Everywhere!!! But how I get to go??

Many people have resorted to yoga in last few years, and they are seeing huge difference in their health. But a huge population is still in thinking mode, and a huge are doing only 'comfort yoga'- like on and off, depending on the mood.  It's difficult to take time out for ourselves with kids. But the umpteen number of benefits of yoga must be reaped by everyone, for our own good health (physical as well as mental). The world would be celebrating the 8th anniversary of International Yoga Day on 21st June 2022. In India, this day is celebrated by Ministry of Ayush with a particular theme every year. This year the theme chosen is " Yoga for Humanity ." Another interesting event which will happen this year across the world is ' Guardian ring .' It would be like a relay race. The yoga sessions would be performed across the nations from east to west along with the movement of sun. It would be telecasted live on DD Channels (India)  (Source: Press Information ...

A dose of positivity!!!

A woman may be a simple creation of God but when she becomes a mother, she completely transforms into a complex entity. She can have many moods simultaneously in few minutes- happy, sad, angry, disappointed, hopeful, loving, caring and many more. But how is she able to manage so many moods? You can see a mommy screaming at a child now, and the very next minute- that same child is in the arms, being hugged and kissed profusely. Multiple dirty diapers are the irritants, still those little bummies are cleaned and dried with a gentle touch. She may be sick, but never in life would she forget to pick (her child from school/ bus/ park/ friend's home) She truly has ten hands like Goddess Durga, doing multiple chores simultaneously and she has zillions of thoughts running through 86 billion neurons in her mind. πŸ˜ƒ So, after all this, getting tired is expected. Nahi? NAHI. Not at all. Physical tiredness is acceptable. But mind should never be tired. The juggle between kids, careers, and hom...

Digital Mamma

In last two years, online schooling transformed the entire education system, courtesy Mr. Coronavirus,  and the mothers we see today are "Digital Mammas"πŸ˜€. The digital wave didn't restrict itself only to online classes. It has now touched every single domain in our lives. Google Pay, Paytm, Phonepe, UPI, QR codes- all these are indispensable part of us now.  Many people, especially women, were and are fond of keeping a cash amount with them. Not only saving and having it, we, women love to spend it too. But in previous year, I felt, the cash was not outgoing. Reason: Subzi wali wants G pay, Grocery wala wants Paytm, even golgappe wala bhaiya says "Madam Paytm  hi krdo ". Restaurants, online shopping, home deliveries, malls, schools, and maids- all prefer online payments. This digital money transfer is good and easy but I, sometimes, miss that physical money spendingπŸ˜‰. One thing, for sure, I would want to have as physical money- Ladies Kitty amount. I just ho...

πŸŒΏπŸƒ A Short Nature Trail with kids πŸ‘£πŸ‘£

India is full of beautiful hill stations from North to South, and West to East. Each destination has its own beauty.  Walking through the nature, through the calm woods, may not excite all. But still if you get to trek or simply walk, someday, try it once. It's truly relaxing.  On return trip from Mahabaleshwar recently, I asked my daughter, "What was the best part of the trip?" "Walking through the jungle to find the hidden river!!!", came her instant reply. And, when I asked myself the same question, I had no better answer.  The summer heat of May doesn't see fuller rivers and splashing waterfalls, but still we thought of visiting Lingmala's waterfall in Mahabaleshwar. On reaching the entry point, we were told there were about 200 steps to reach down there. There were few visitors only. So, with kids, initially we were apprehensive to climb down. Because usually, the kids climb on you when you are climbing up back.  πŸ˜€ So, started a small nature walk a...

Mommies! It's Summer Vacations!! Let's holiday!!!

Any mother who says - "I eagerly wish for kids summer vacations" or who is really excited for summer school off, is a liarπŸ˜‰πŸ˜€. Pun intended.  The thought of summer holidays sets the nerves anxious, days before they start. Kids and mothers, before the long holidays, are as follows- Kids-  "Yeah!!! holidays coming...no study...dancing πŸ•Ίand ding traang !!!" Mom- (though super excited from facial expressions) Yeah!!! (inside is like-  yeh band baaja mera hi bajega.") Most of the summer vacations were earlier, and till today, are spent at maternal grandparent's house. Favourite destination of many mothers, where mothers are also at holiday!!! no cooking, no waking up soon and many delights!!! to each mom, her own!!! But a holiday, to a new destination, during vacations should be a must, not because you or kids want to tell that to friends and family, but you deserve it. Mommies deserve a holiday, for, once a while,  they can also get up late...   they...

Earth Day - Helping the Mother Earth today and tomorrow...

Our lovely Blue Planet 🌍...  Our Mother Earth has its birthday today...  It's 22 nd April - THE EARTH DAY...                                                So, today, let's celebrate the mother of us all, THE MOTHER EARTH...  Our Mother Earth was born some 4.5 billion years ago and no one knows the exact birth date, then how do I call 22 nd April the Earth's birthday?  Until April 1970, everyone was just enjoying the blue planet's privileges. It was Senator Gaylord Nelson from US who recognised the importance to save our living planet. He was perturbed by the fact that no institute/ government focused on the protection of Earth's environment, so he created Earth Day on 22nd April, 1970. About 20 million people supported this noble cause to save and protect our Mother Earth.  So, this makes  Earthday - Birthday . Because, this was the day ...
